Hi, I'm Jennifer!

As a Grants Assessor for charity and public sector funded projects, I work across the UK supporting funders to choose where best to focus their funding. I also help other freelance assessors to grow and raise the profile of our work. I am reliable, thorough and consistent and also super friendly.

I understand how important it is to assess projects with compassion and care whilst supporting funders to direct grants to projects that meet their goals.

Helping good causes â€‹

I've always wanted to work for myself whilst helping good causes and now I get to do it every day.  My passion for making a difference started in my early teens when I completed many a sponsored walk to raise money to help whales and dolphins! I then worked abroad on an animal sanctuary in my 20s, came back to the UK and worked as a fundraiser for a national cancer charity.

Working with local government

In my 30s, I moved into local government and supported local businesses to find funding. It was here that I built and honed my skills in assessing grant applications, evaluating projects from £10,000 up to £13m across multiple sectors including tourism, rural economy, farming, agriculture, agri-tech and clean energy.

I discovered a love for understanding projects on a deeper level, as well as writing about them and other people liked what I did too!

During this time I also authored a research report into the need for businesses to have more support to take up digital technology.  As a a result, I created a funding programme specifically for this purpose, which was oversubscibed in weeks; it ended up running for several years attracting significant amounts of funding.

Becoming self employed

After several years of local government, I decided it was now or never to take the leap into self-employment, which I had always wanted to do and I haven't looked back since.

Nowadays,I work for multiple funders covering the length and breadth of the country, supporting varying needs including mental health, community development, armed forces, access to music, social enterprise, sustainability and more, the list keeps growing.

Becoming a freelance â€‹

Being a Grants Assessor is a privilege as I work with and meet so many different funders, people, causes and projects around the UK. I also love working and sharing my passion for being a freelance assessor as it gives me flexibility and rewards beyond my previous employment.

My aim now is to be the sector's 'go to' grants assessor, raise the profile of assessors, and continue to support funders and assessors with help and resources.

Please get in touch to see how we can work together, or connect with me on Linked In, I would love to hear from you!
